TONY JUDT - Born in East London in 1948, he was trained at King’s College, Cambridge, and studied at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris. He taught at Cambridge as well as at Berkeley and Emory before joining NYU in 1987, where he served as a main exemplar and protagonist of its newly deepened commitment to serious scholarship and graduate education.
